New Photo: Clara and the Nutcracker

Clara (portrayed by porcelain ball-jointed doll Isabelle) sits in front of the Christmas tree hugging her beloved Nutcracker, wondering what she can do to save him.

This image is now available on a variety of products on my stores at Cafe PressZazzleRed Bubble, and my deviantArt print shop.

I love the story of Nutcracker and Mouseking! The ballet, the music, the original book… they are all really good! I found a cute little Russian cartoon that was inspired by the ballet:

Also, Isabelle, the doll in the photo, is my newest porcelain BJD. She was my Christmas present. I just now realized that I did not write a post about her. I will try to do that in the next week or so...

Ringo and I hope you all had a very Merry Christmas, and we wish you many blessings in the new year. Happy 2014!! :D

New Doll: Saint Kateri Tekakwitha

I made this doll in the spring, but wasn’t sure how I wanted to dress her, and over the summer I had a lot of pain in my hands, so I had to set her aside for a while.
She is made of organic color grown cotton, but her hair, face and nails are bamboo. Her dress is made of organic cotton fabric, and she is stuffed with organic cotton too. She has a steel wire armature, and is approximately 7.25 inches tall.
I decided to make her after reading a very interesting book about Saint Kateri Tekakwitha called "Saint Kateri: Lily of the Mohawks" by Matthew and Margaret Bunson. Her clothing is inspired by the way they said Kateri dressed in the book after she moved to the Sault Mission, in a simple long blue dress. I knitted a shawl, I wanted it to kind of look like deerskin or something like that. They said she usually wore a shawl, sometimes covered her hair with it, but they didn't say what it looked like, so I just made it up to match her boots :P
She is holding a “rosary”, made of a little ball chain and a sterling silver cross (yes, it’s actually an Orthodox cross, but it’s all I had on hand that could work for now!). Eventually I would like to make her a rosary out of glass beads, but I haven’t’ quite figured out how to do it yet…
Anyways, I think she turned out pretty cute, I am happy with my little Kateri ^_^ Here are some photos of her:

Gizella

My new doll, Gizella, arrived this morning! She is a 35cm porcelain BJD by JRdolls. I named her after the balled "Giselle". So I just wanted to share a few pictures of her with you ^_^ The lighting today is pretty bad, so I will take more pics later.

I made her dress, wig and shoes, they are all made of organic cotton.

All my girls together.
Top row: Ciara Angelique, Bu Yong, Ishtar, Kisa, Elena
Bottom Row: Kateri, Gizella, Katya

I have photos of my other girls to share with you too, as you can see in the group shot above, I made them all new wigs! So far I have only posted Elena's and Kateri's, I haven't had time to go through the other pictures yet. I will try to get through them this week...

Snegurochka, the Snow Maiden, is happiest in the forest during a snowstorm, holding her friend the snow rabbit. Inspired by the many versions of this popular Russian fairy tale, "Snegurochka" is the third illustration in my Fairy Tale Fashion series.

This illustration is now available on a wide variety of items on my stores at Cafe PressZazzleRed BubbleArtist Rising, and my deviantArt print shop.

As you have most likely guessed, I love the stories about the Snow Maiden. I also love winter, and snow! The past few winters we have not gotten much snow here, I miss it. I'm hoping we will get more this year.

Before I go, I just wanted to share an animated version of this story with you. It's really cute, it was done in Russia in 1952. I hope you enjoy it! (Don't worry, it has subtitles ^_^)

Cute Kateri

I just want to share a few pics of Kateri in her new wig - actually, I made this wig for Katya. But when it was done, I just didn't like the style on her. So I tried it on my other girls, and it looks really cute on Kateri, which means it must be hers! I also made her a new long-sleeve t-shirt and leggings to go under a little knitted skirt I made a few years ago. The wig, shirt and leggings are made of organic cotton. I think the knitted skirt is made of corn, either that or bamboo/soy, I can't remember which...
