I have a new online gallery where you can buy prints or posters of my art (due to limitations on the website I don't have every single piece on there, but most of them are) ^-^ The gallery is on a site called "Artist Rising", which is affiliated with Art.com. You can visit my gallery by clicking here. The link is also in the list with the links to my other shops, at the upper left hand side of this page. Please check it out! :D

New Photo: Hidden Gem

I found this beautiful rose growing behind the chain link fence in my neighbor's yard. It's in a place that is not very easy to see, and I almost didn't photograph it because I didn't think I could get a good angle for the shot. But my mom encouraged me to try anyways, and I'm glad she did ^-^
This photo is now available on many items in my stores at Cafe Press, Zazzle, Red Bubble, and my deviant art Print Shop.

New Illustration: Morozko
![]() |
| "Morozko" Ink on watercolor paper 9x12" ©2012 Debi Cady |
Scenes from the classic Russian fairy tale are depicted in this whimsical illustration. On the right, the wicked stepmother orders her husband to take his daughter to the forest and leave her there to die. In the center, the girl receives gifts from Morozko. Magical snowflakes from Morozko's staff dance around the borders. This is one of my favorite fairy tales, I remember my mom reading it to me when I was young.
As always, this illustration is available on my stores at Cafe Press, Zazzle, Red Bubble, and my deviantArt Print Shop

New Illustration: The Wood Maiden
![]() |
| "The Wood Maiden" Ink on Watercolor Paper 5x7" ©2011 Debi Cady |
Betushka spins flax while her nanny goats graze, unaware that the Wood Maiden is approaching to dance with her. Scene from the Czechoslovakian fairy tale "The Wood Maiden".
I actually did this illustration last year, but never posted it because I was thinking of using it as part of a larger project. Since I have decided not to do that particular project, I can now share this illustration with you ^-^ As mentioned above, it is from a Czechoslovakian fairy tale. In this story, the Wood Maiden is a supernatural being. She likes to dance with children. She sometimes rewards little girls with riches and magical things (as happens in this story), but she will dance little boys to death (although in this story that does not happen, thankfully!). It's kind of strange, but still a cool story. Betushka's dress was inspired by a Valachian folk dance costume. I looked into many different Czechoslovakian costumes for her, and there were so many pretty ones! But in the end I felt this one suited her best. It looked like it could be worn by a younger girl, and it didn't look too rich, which was important to me since she was supposed to be a poor girl.
As always, this illustration is now available at my stores on Cafe Press, Zazzle, Red Bubble, and my deviantArt Print Shop. My Cafe Press and Zazzle shops have added sooooooo many new products in the past couple of months, it's just crazy! But some of them are really cool, and I am still adding to it, so be sure to check them out ^-^
Also, in the next few days, I will be posting my newest illustration, of the Russian fairy tale "Morozko". It's been a long time coming, I actually started it a few months ago, and should've finished it quite some time ago! But I've had some stuff going on in my family that prevented me from working much on any of my projects. Now that things are settling down I should be able to do more again. I have another little knitted dolly almost finished, I just need to do the beadwork on her dress. So sometime in the next month I should have her ready too :)

Ishtar
I got Kisa a friend - she just arrived this morning! I have named her Ishtar, after Queen Esther (Ishtar is a variant of Esther). Originally I had planned to name her something else, but it just didn't suit her. My mom actually is the one who said she would make a good Queen Esther. I thought about it for a while, and no other name really seemed to fit. Esther is one of my favorite books in the Bible anyways, and she is a woman that I admire greatly, so I think it's the perfect name for my new doll ^-^ Plus, I now can have lots of fun designing a Queen Esther-inspired wardrobe for her! (although I will dress her in other things too)
In the pictures she is wearing a dress that I knitted for her. I scaled down a human-sized pattern for a kimono sweater, and added a skirt. This was my first time doing anything with cable knitting, so it really was an experiment! But I got lucky - it turned out just fine, and it fits her well enough.

| Ishtar & Kisa - I have some more pics of Kisa in this outfit, I will post them later... |
I have some other outfits I want to try on Ishtar too, as well as some new ones for Kisa that I want to post. So hopefully I will get the chance to do that soon.

A Pleasant Surprise (Kisa)
I used to have a resin bjd, Souldoll Sweet EunJin. She was a cute doll, but I didn't have her very long. Anyways, during the short time that I did have her, I sewed her a little Russian outfit, which I kept even after I didn't have the doll anymore. I ran across this outfit a couple of days ago, and it looked kind of like it might fit Kisa, so I decided to try it on her. And it fits! It actually fits her better than it fit the other doll. I am very happy, because Kisa needs more clothes! I just need to make a shirt to put under it eventually, the thing she is wearing in the pics is actually a dress :P But it's all I have right now that I can use. I also have been having trouble finding shoes for Kisa, so I am making my own. As you will see in the pics, I knitted a little white pair, it's actually a pattern for baby booties, but I liked the lace detailing and the picot edging, so I decided to try knitting up a pair. I think they are cute, although I want to alter the pattern to make them a bit smaller next time. The pair I am posting today is all white, but I also made a pair that is green with brown soles, which I think will show up better in photographs. Next time she wears them I will post pics. And, one more thing before I show you the pictures, Kisa will soon have a friend! Of course, I will post pics of her when she arrives...

Merry Christmas!
I just want to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and a blessed new year! ^-^
Here are a few pics of Kisa in an outfit I made for her, inspired by the Russian sarafan. The dress and blouse are knitted, and I wove the trim on my Mirrix loom :D
