Art vs. Artist
This is something that has been going around Instagram and Twitter lately, to see if there is really any resemblance between an artist and their art. So, I'll let you all be the judge, does my art look like me?

New Illustration: Meranda
"Meranda" by Debi Cady
Copyright 2015 all rights reserved
Meranda is a beautiful, sweet mermaid who lives in the Great Barrier Reef. She is friends with all the ocean creatures, but usually hides from people. She allowed me to paint her portrait as an appeal to humans to make more of an effort to keep the waters of the earth clean - not only to help her and her friends, but to help ourselves as well.
Meranda is now available on many products via my stores at Zazzle , Cafe Press and Red Bubble . I am actually still posting her on Zazzle, with the holiday shopping it has been a really slow process. But I am working on it!
I know it's late, but Ringo & I hope you all had a very Merry Christmas, and we wish you many blessings for the New Year!!

Cordelia Beaded BJD Mermaid!
I've finally finished Cordelia! I'm always excited when I finish a doll, but there is an extra reason I'm excited now: Cordelia is my first mermaid doll! I've always loved mermaids, and have been wanting to make one for a long time.
"Cordelia" is a Celtic name meaning "daughter of the sea", so I think it's a perfect mermaid name! (Although it always reminds me of Anne of Green Gables- will you please call me Cordelia? hehe) Her hair is made of purple coral, and she's wearing part of a fishing net - she got caught in the net, and had to tear it to break free. She also freed several other creatures in the process, a dolphin, and a few turtles, which is a good thing, since they often drown when they get caught in nets like that. Anyways, she kept the piece of net, and hangs some of her treasures from it, as an adornment. It's also a reminder that she is a fighter and a survivor. She hopes that by wearing it, she can remind us to be more mindful about what we do to the sea, and take more care in selecting items that won't harm the creatures living in it.
She is made of Japanese glass seed beads, organic cotton thread & fiber fill, Swarovski pearls, ahimsa silk thread, and Swarovski crystals. She has 10 points of articulation, including 3 in her tail (I'm particularly happy about this, since I really wanted her tail to be poseable!). She is approximately 8.5 inches tall (more like 10 inches, if you measure to the tip of her tail). And here she is:

WIP Cordelia Beaded BJD
I have been working on two new dolls lately. They are both going to be a bit different from my other dolls, but I want it to be a surprise, so for now I will not say exactly how they are different. You'll just have to wait and see ^_^
But, I can give you a little sneak peek at one of them! This is Cordelia:

New Illustration: The Firebird
In Slavic folklore, the Firebird is a magical bird from a faraway land, usually depicted as a small, fire-colored peacock. It can bring blessing or doom to its captor. It glows, and a single feather from the firebird's tail can illuminate an entire room.
This illustration started out as a test for a new art app I was trying. I am quite happy with the results, and so I decided to share it with everyone ^_^
It is now available on a wide variety of products in my stores at Zazzle, Cafe Press, Red Bubble, and my deviantArt Print shop.

WIP "Esmeralda" Beaded BJD
I have been working on a special project lately -- a beaded BJD! I wasn't sure if I could do it, but I have, and I am quite pleased with the results ^_^ I have named her Esmeralda, she is a faerie. She is about 9 inches tall. She's made of Japanese glass seed beads, organic cotton thread & stuffing, and has Swarovski pearl joints. She has 13 points of articulation, and is my own design and pattern. She kind of reminds me of a marionette for some reason. I think she turned out really cute. I still need to make her clothes, shoes & accessories, but I want to share some photos of her now anyways. I hope you will like her too!

Through the keyhole you can see Alice walking through Wonderland, meeting the Cheshire Cat. Characters from Wonderland inhabit the borders, including the Caterpillar and White Rabbit. Many skeleton keys also float around the keyhole - one of them can unlock the door, to free Alice. But which one? "Alice" is the fourth illustration in my Fairy Tale Fashion Series.
This illustration is now available at my stores on Cafe Press, Red Bubble, Artist Rising,my deviantArt print shop. and my Zazzle Store.

Digital Paint
Snegurochka, the Snow Maiden, is happiest in the forest during a snowstorm, holding her friend the snow rabbit. Inspired by the many versions of this popular Russian fairy tale, "Snegurochka" is the third illustration in my Fairy Tale Fashion series.
This illustration is now available on a wide variety of items on my stores at Cafe Press, Zazzle, Red Bubble, Artist Rising, and my deviantArt print shop.
As you have most likely guessed, I love the stories about the Snow Maiden. I also love winter, and snow! The past few winters we have not gotten much snow here, I miss it. I'm hoping we will get more this year.
Before I go, I just wanted to share an animated version of this story with you. It's really cute, it was done in Russia in 1952. I hope you enjoy it! (Don't worry, it has subtitles ^_^)

Another Interview
Another interview I did a while back was just published on a blog, Meet the Makers. It's a pretty cool blog, she interviews artists from all over the world, and with many different styles, and shows some samples of their art and stuff. So I thought I'd share the link in case any of you want to check it out ^-^
Edit: This interview is also on Pea Brain's Ideas, Pea Brain's Ideas on Wordpress, and Designs by Hafapea.

![]() |
| ©2011 Debi Cady Ink on watercolor paper 5x7" |
This is the second version of the Snow Maiden that I have drawn, the first version was done in different shades of aqua and blue, this one is all whites and red. Why? I have no idea! I just like this picture, and I was envisioning it in different ways. I think they are equally pretty ^-^ I wish I could be there, surrounded by all the snow! It's way too hot here right now :(

My New Online Store
I just opened a new store at ShopHandmade.com ^_^ In this store, I will be selling original works of art, and doll clothes. In the future there might be other things, but for now that's all I'm planning on. Every purchase you make from my store helps to protect 250 square feet of rainforest, which I thought was a really cool feature of this website! At the moment I have two hand-knitted outfits for MSD/Slim MSD girl dolls, I will post here whenever I update my store. Anyways, please check it out, and bookmark it, and the link will also be available on the Links section of this blog :D Thank you for looking!

New Illustration: American Woodcock
![]() |
| American Woodcock Acrylics, Chalk, Ink on Watercolor Paper (Digital) 5x7" ©2010 Debi Cady |
The American Woodcock is a small species of shorebird found in eastern North America. It is also known as a bogsucker, timberdoodle, night partridge or brush snipe. They are a popular game bird, and spend most of their time in the brushy undergrowth of new forests, where their unique markings give them camouflage. The adults are generally about 10-12" long, and weigh 5-8 ounces. Their diet consists mostly of insects (such as earthworms, centipedes, spiders, etc), insect larvae, and snails. They occasionally eat plants as well, mostly seeds. Their population has been decreasing, mostly due to habitat destruction. They are also really cute! ^-^
As always, this illustration is available in both of my stores, and I hope you like it! :D

To see a larger, better picture of this illustration, please check out my stores. On my Cafe Press shop, she is in the Angels, Icons & Religious Art section. In my Zazzle Store you will just have to look around for her, as I am not entirely happy with the layout yet, and am still changing things. As of my writing this, she is on the home page, because she is the newest. Thanks for looking!
