Spinella, Faerie of Spinel

Spinella is faerie of the gemstone spinel. Her name is actually Latin and means "little thorn". Spinel was named after this, because it grows in very sharp octahedral crystals. Throughout history, spinel has been mistaken for many other gems, most notably rubies, so it doesn't have much lore of its own. It comes in just about every color. Spinella represents black, red , yellow and blue spinel. Spinel is said have a calming energy, and is thought to encourage renewal and healing. Different colors of spinel are said to have different healing properties. It is a non-traditional zodiac stone for Gemini.

Spinella is about 9.25 inches tall. She is made of Japanese glass seed beads, Swarovski pearls, and organic cotton thread & fiber fill. Her dress is accented with natural black spinel beads. She is ball jointed, and has 13 points of articulation.

And here she is!

WIP Spinel Faerie

I am finally ready to show you the first pictures of my new doll! She is Spinel Faerie (I haven't decided on her name yet, aside from this title), the first in a series of Gemstone Faeries. All the colors used for this doll represent colors that spinel is found in naturally. Her dress, which I am now making, will represent red spinel, and will have real pieces of black spinel on it. The black spinel I'm using is pictured with the doll below ^_^

Book Sneak Peek/New Illustration: Amber Faerie

I am working on a new book! It is still in the early stages, with much research, writing and illustrating left to do. But I recently finished the first illustration, and wanted to share it with you ^_^

The Amber Faerie lives in a lagoon on the edge of the Gemstone Forest. She cultivates amber which is then distributed throughout the world. Amber represents eternal love and youth, and is said to have many healing properties. It is the stone of the zodiac signs Taurus and Leo, and is an alternate birthstone for November. This illustration is from my upcoming book "Gemstone Faeries".

Although the book is not completed yet, I am starting to post the illustrations in my stores as I finish them (this way, by the time the book is published, they will all be available). So, this illustration is now available on my stores at ZazzleCafe PressRed Bubble, and my deviantArt print shop

New Doll: Ambrozetta, the Amber Faerie (Gemstone Faeries #1)

I am beginning a new series of dolls, the Gemstone Faeries. ^_^ My first gemstone faerie is the Amber Faerie, her name is Ambrozetta. "Ambrozetta" means "immortal" in Greek, and is also used to refer to amber and other similar-looking minerals.

She is 6 inches tall, and is made of 100% organic cotton yarn and stuffing. She has a steel wire armature, so she is posable (gently, of course). All the colors used for her skin, hair, facial features and clothing represent the colors of amber: honey (yellow), white, green and red. She has real pieces of Baltic amber on her dress and also an amber necklace and bracelet.

For her dress I knit a few pieces of lace using a traditional Estonian lace stitch - because a lot of amber is found in the Baltic Region, I thought it was fitting, and it was just such a beautiful pattern! There were 3 variations of it, but I chose the one that had a lace flower at the top.
